Samaritan's Purse
Today was my first day with Samaritan's Purse. This is what my day looked like..
8:00am - arrived at the front door. Christa (who is my cubical-mate) met me with my passcard. I got a tour and met some of the people that I would be working alongside. I shook hands, I smiled, I fidgeted with my passcard.
8:30am - I was left to hang out at my desk and play with my office supplies. They don't have my favourite pen. I don't like the pens they provide. Sigh. I will have to go to Staples and get my own pen. AND...the pen that was there, didn't have a lid. Don't even get me started on this issue I have. It is a whole other post!
9:00am - Department devos. Can you say, awkward? Split into pairs and pray!? Um...do you know me? YIKES! Luckily, Ana and I chatted and then headed back to our desk. Phew. Maybe once I know more about what we were praying for, it will be easier. Maybe. Maybe I'll call in sick every Tuesday.
9:30am - Met with Don, our operations manager. He talked for 1/2 hour and told some interesting stories. He was very candid. I want his job.
10:00 to 11:30am - Sat with Andrea, who is HR. I watched a video on SP and Franklin Graham, learned about the email policy and dress code (what?!?! I can't dress like a hoochie or drink at work? Crazy) and got some free stuff. We talked about her upcoming wedding and the pancake breakfast. Yum.
11:30 to 1:00pm My direct supervisor, Sandra took Christa and Jenny (the receptionist)and I for lunch. We get a discount at Moxie's.
1:30 to 3:30pm - I hung out with Sandra. I signed more forms, and she gave me the run down on summer hours and holidays and sick days. I am working 9 hours a day and get every other Friday off. Woohoo! We took a coffee break and watched part of the World Cup. I flipped through my many binders and books of info. Wow...I don't think I'll ever figure out the phone system!
3:30 to 4:30pm - I got sent to the mail room to help Christa process credit card payments. Yup...I did some actual work today and get this, she only had to show me ONCE how to do it. I think I'm smarter than the average bear! I had to take the automatic withdraw spreadsheets and MANUALLY enter the card numbers, expiration date and amount into a handheld debit machine. THat is a whole lotta numbers! I had to balance the printouts with the total of the sheet. I'm good, everything balanced!
4:45pm - I left and drove to my other job.
That was my day.

Yay! for a successful first Day!
I'm sure it's a relief to have that out of the way. The first day can be stressful. Sounds like an easy going place to work. YAY for the Moxie's discount. Do you want a box of pens as a 'starting the new job' present?
It sounds great Crystal! Way to get the first day done with style! Does it feel like a good fit? Are you first impressions super good? Sorry to hear about the pen situation, but I'm sure you'll get into a new pen groove right away. Happy new job!
I sure do want a box of pens!
