Groupies

Back Row: Sheila, Monica, Sarah, Shara, Lisa
Sitting: Holly, Erin, Randi, Maigan, Me
Stretched Out: Rowena

These are my small groupies. We had our last meeting as one large group on Sunday and it was a bittersweet time. There was much laughter and many, many tears. For our last meeting, we had a comissioning service and that included a foot washing! Now, if you know me, you know that feet and especially other people's feet are not a highlight for me but it was an incredible experience. So humbling, so blessed. This is how it worked: We each picked a person secretly that we wanted to bless and encourage on this night. We would wash their feet and someone else would pick us. (I chose Maigan. She is amazing!) We went one "sitting" at a time, which was a little awkward to have what felt like a private converstion, in front of 12 other people, but we encouraged them and shared a verse or reading or whatever we felt lead to do. Then we washed their feet and prayed for them. There were very few dry eyes in the room and I know we all went away encouraged and loved! We all know that it is time to move on and split the group to allow more women to join, but it will be strange to not see these women every week. We had the summer to think and pray about which group we would follow in the fall and the funny thing is, that the groups are basically split along hair color! Strange eh?

I can't believe that I haven't even been in the group for a whole yet yet (Remember when I joined at the end of October? There was some good timing in that!) and I can't imagine my life without this group!

Tremendous!

I skipped church on Sunday ( I know, I know...I'm going to hell!) but apparently the message was brought to us by the word TREMENDOUS. I wish I could have been there to count how many times Geoff used it in a 45 minute sermon. Apparenently it was a plethora of times. He came to our small group comissioning that night and even said it again! I think there were more than a few snickers in the group.

Anyways, I was thinking about the certain words that I use (and maybe overuse? ) and this is my list of favourite words. If you can think of anymore that I tend to say a lot, feel free to add them!

In no order...

5. Yowza
4. Plethora
3. Fantabulous
2. Frickin'
1. Stellar

Ice, Ice Baby

Maybe I'm not so bad at this whole salesperson thing. Tonight, I was the top sales at the store...after only 1 sale. In everyone else's defence, it was a rather slow day but I beat the next closest contender by a mere 900 buckeroos. Yup. I sure did. What can I say, I negotiated, danced, sweet talked, spouted off diamond facts and in the end, convinced this lovely couple that A) She absolutely needed to go home with the ring tonight rather than special ordering it, B) They should spend the $300 more to upgrade to a larger stone but lesser quality. (After all, when she shows off her ring, her friends will be noticing the size, not the color grading! Size does matter, people) and C) that my final price was actually my final price. I neglected to tell them that my manager had agreed to give them a larger percentage off. They will never know and I enjoy the larger commission.

I'm quite proud of myself as I am not in the part-time retail business because I'm a good salesperson. I'm rather horrible at it actually. But my dad can sell ice to an eskimo, so maybe some of those qualities are inherited. Or maybe I just talk and bullshit until they buy to shut me up. Either way, it worked.

They left happy. I left happy as I have now made my monthly budget goal. Yippee!

In other work news, as of September 1st, I will not be working at Market anymore. I have been transfered to the brand-spanking new, million dollar Sunridge store. The rumor is that we will even carry rings over $20,000. I need to find me a rich man!

I ...

I stole this off of a blog I read regularly and thought it was fun...blogging has been a bit slow for me this week so maybe this will help my mental block!

I am exhaused and am looking forward to the weekend.
I said I would never have a unity candle at my wedding!
I watched dragon boats race at Glenmore over the weekend.
I so need a good massage.
I miss Africa.
I hear the sound of 5 girls data entering.
I wonder if I'll still be in Canada in 5 years.
I regret not saving more money when I had my kick ass paying job and cheaper rent.
I sometimes think I'd make a good office manager.
I am not too clear on how our goverment works. I hated social.
I dance in my car or when no one is around..or after a few drinks!
I sing but not always in the right key or the right tune, but I love to sing.
I cry less often than I used to.
I'm not always eager to admit that I'm wrong.
I make sarcastic comments when I'm uncomfortable
I write my innermost thoughts in my journal. I wish I could write poetry
I confuse my right and my left when I'm giving someone else directions.
I should exercise on a more regular basis

Complete it too if you want!

Invading of the Lunchroom

I had lunch and a great conversation today with an old friend.

Ok...not so much of an old friend but an aquantaince. Ok...not really an acquaintance either but the ex-girlfriend of MY ex's best friend. Confused? Me too. And it wasn't REALLY a conversation but rather, well, awkward silence and avoiding eye contact BUT we did have lunch in close proximity so I think that counts!

I was peacefully eating my lunch, oblivious to who was sitting around me. After all, we have so many visitors and guests and volunteers coming and going that our lunch room is always full of strangers. I figured this was just another one of them. Until I caught her eye. I'm sure she recognized me and went to the same great lenghts to not say "hi" as I did. I thought about saying something but couldn't get past "hi". We haven't seen/talked in over 2.5 years and we weren't exactly close before then either. I figured that it would be less awkward to continue eating my lunch in silence.

Maybe it wasn't really her. Maybe it was someone who looked eerily like her. Maybe that knowing, shocked, glance she gave me was because I reminded her of someone.

Maybe I'll have to eat out tomorrow!

A Little On the Slow Side

Ok. So it isn't Monday and I'm a little slow on the uptake but here's my list for this week:

As I was listening to Vibe this morning (what can I say, there is something about Shake That Ass that gets me in the mood for working!), their question of the day was "What was the number 1 answer by women when asked who they would most like to sit next to on a long plane ride?"

The number 1 answer was...George Clooney. What? Maybe they polled 45 year old women.

My top 5 list of people I'd like to sit next to on a plane would be...

5. Pacey Witter
4. Paul Walker (have you seen his abs? Maybe he'd let me touch them or maybe he'd be sleeping and I just would!)
3. Johnny Depp
2. Jennifer Aniston
1. Seth Cohen

The 5 people I would not want to sit beside...

5. Kevin Federline
4. Ruben Studdard
3. Pauly Shore
2. Jim Carrey
1. Bono

Of course, if sitting by one of these people meant that I got to sit in first class, I'd bring my ear plugs and some good tunes and suffer through it! After all, isn't alcohol complimentary in first class?
