Fairmont Algonquin

It is just after 8am here. I'm up already and have eaten breakfast and my comfy hotel bed is calling my name.

It is only 5am back home.

I have no where to be until devotions at 10:30 and then we eat again at 11:30.

Then the day officially begins.

It is rainy today and the sun is just starting to make an appearance between the clouds. It reminds me of when I was at bible school at Capernwray. The rainy chill in the air, the ocean just down the hill and the serene setting.

Mind you, at Capernwray, there wasn't a Tim Hortons just up the road...

Our tiny 30 passenger plane from Montreal to NB.

When I checked into my hotel room, this was what was on the TV.

Oh Reba.

Side wing of the hotel

Front of the hotel. I am not in the "main" hotel but the newly added wing across the street. This picture was taken from the sitting area in my room. Alana is staying in one of the suites located in the turret. She has a seperate sitting area overlooking the ocean. I'm only slightly jealous!

Travelling

I'm bored.

Sitting in my quiet apartment, wishing that there was something good on TV.

The boy is in Pittsburg watching hockey. I can't believe he had the nerve to abandon me for the weekend. Sheesh!

My car is waiting for some repairs so I couldn't go anywhere even if I wanted to. Walking is not an option.

So here I sit.

My packing is done as tomororw I am headed off to NB for a week. For work. I am pretty excited about this as we get to stay at the Fairmont Algonquin. I think this may be my only chance to stay at a Fairmont so I think I shall enjoy this while it lasts.

On Sunday I get to run a "Meet & Greet with Paul Brandt" event for work. I fly to Toronto where I have to pick up a rental car and attempt to find my way to Lindsay, ON....

I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous. Driving on the 401? Not something I ever wanted to do by myself!

So that is what I'm up to this week. I'm excited to go and take a break from being in the office. It hasn't been *ahem* exactly my dream job in the past few weeks. I'm discouraged and frustrated and contemplaing a change...so maybe this trip will help put things in perspective.

Saturday

I figured he was up to something when he said he had plans for Saturday but wouldn't tell me what he was doing.

He showed up at my house at 10:30, with a card, roses and a picnic lunch.

So sweet!

We drove to Big Hill Springs Park but since Mick was oncall for work and we didn't get cell phone reception in the valley, we had to opt for plan B. We drove to Cochrane and ate our yummy lunch in the park.

We went for a walk, hiked up a rather large hill (ok...it wasn't that large but I'm really out of shape), went for icecream at MacKays and I had a great time. Maybe it was the fall weather...maybe the free lunch and roses but I am pretty sure it had something to do with the company.

I think I've grown rather fond of this guy.

Mmmm....pie!

It is no secret that I'm not a fantastic cook. I'm not HORRIBLE but I have been known to burn chicken from time to time. I think Carmen even took the battery out of the smoke alarm in our old place because I set it off one too many times! I don't hate cooking, I just prefer to watch someone else to it for me. I'd much rather do the cleanup. My list of cooking options are quite limited but I can make taco salad and cream puffs and a chicken recipe that my mom gave me.

I have never made a pie before. A REAL pie. Pumpkin pie. So I decided to venture into this unknown cooking territory. And nope, I didn't make the crust. Baby steps people...baby steps.

I think I can now add "pie" to my list of accomplishments. Carmen even said it wasn't horrible!
