Queen of Good Intentions

Sometimes I can't think of anything to post...so after reading some blogs that I faithfully check and enjoy, I've noticed that this group of people (whom I don't know personally) all have a specific post on a specific day. It's their 'thing'.

I have decided to steal their great idea. So on Mondays, I will post on a specific theme...If you know me, however, you know that I am the Queen of good intentions so this fad may not last long...but at least it will be fun for me for a few weeks.

Therefore, today, I bring you....

(drum roll please)

My top 5 list... Of songs! Yay!
This list is brought to you by the fact that I have resorted to singing songs in my head as there is no music playing in my cubicle. I don't even have speakers yet...and the lack of music/background noise is driving me bananas!

My 5 favourite songs, in no particular order besides #1. In fact, I may not post a #1, just so I can hear what YOU think it is...very few people know what my fav song is so this could be intersting...or completely boring if no one comments. Then I will be sad. :(

5. Beautiful by India Arie
4. Uninvited by Alanis
3. Feels Like Home by Chantal
2. Unloved by Jann Arden
1. ??

What's in A Name?

On the very wise advice of my parents, I think I might register my own business. I am doing transcription part-time for my former boss and if I register as a company, I can reap the benefits of an at-home business. I might be able to write off part of my rent, utilities, a new computer, car payments, etc. That sounds like a pretty sweet deal for only forking over 150 bucks to register my company.

But, I have to come up with a name and that is brutally hard!

I consider myself to be a somewhat creative person, however, in the naming of things department, I suck! Craig and I thought we were being uber-helpful when we tried to assist in naming a band and in hindsight, I don't think our ideas were very good. We came across the same problem when coming up with witty names for a bookstore. I could always use a numbered company, which might be the safest option but is dull, dull, dull. After all, transcription doesn't exactly lend itself to witty banter or funny puns or play on words or even something undorky. Transcription Schmanscription. It doesn't really roll off the tongue.

Any ideas?

My Soft Spot for Musicians

This is Starfield.

I think he looks like the ex. His mannerisms while onstage also remind me of the ex.

Creepy.

#*@*!* Government

I don't get my GST cheque this quarter. I figured I wasn't getting it when everyone else was talking about how excited they were to get their cheques and mine hadn't arrive in my account yet. I get it direct deposited so I get it before those who still get theirs in regular form.

Apparently, I made too much money last year so I don't qualify for the GST rebate.

I haven't gotten a GST cheque in forever as I have owed income tax for the last 3 years and since I pay it off quarterly, they just apply the GST rebate to my balance. I am all paid up for this year so I was looking forward to that measley 35 bucks.

No luck.

My Love Relationship

I love peanut butter.

It doesn't really matter if it is chunky, smooth or whatever. I love it. I even prefer the unsweetened variety as it tastes more like peanuts. Peanuty goodness.

This sordid affair that Mr. Peanut Butter and I have started back in Africa. I lived on it. I ate it for breakfast on my fresh baked roll (which was more like a baguette) and for lunch, I had it on the rest of my roll and for supper on apples. It was too darn hot to eat much so peanut butter did the trick in tying me over until the next meal.

I got home and was living with my parents. My mom had recently purchased a whole new jar of Kraft Smooth Peanut Butter. I ate the whole jar. In a week. A WEEK! And, surprisingly, I had no ill-effects from that much PB.

Now that I live on my own, I only allow myself peanut butter as a treat. I don't buy it often so I'm not tempted and when I do get it, I get the smallest Kraft container I can, in the unsweetened form. (I usually eat it on apples so the sweetness is balanced, but sometimes I will eat it straight from the jar. I have a problem.) I haven't bought any for 2 months, at least, so I got one yesterday.

I'm spending some quality time with my peanut butter right now.

Sweet, smooth, creamy peanut butter.

Yum

Floaters - 1, Bow River - 1

See Craig's post

Have you ever watched a rescue from the river? I have!

I went for a run along the river tonight. Normally, I run towards the zoo but after freaking myself out as it is a deserted, secluded running path, I decided that running where I can be watched it probably safer! So, on my way back home, I hear sirens. Loud and coming towards me on Memorial. No biggie...right? WRONG! The driver takes the next break in the median, which happens to be right where I'm stopped, flips a bitch and comes up on the sidewalk! I jumped back but was definetly close enough to check out the paramedics inside. Hot. Very hot. Then, the rescue boat comes down the river! Ok. Now I'm curious. As I was running west, there were 3 people in a raft who looked like they were having a great time. One was hanging out of the raft and looked quite wet. I'm sure it wasn't the first time she went into the drink. So, as I approach Centre Street Bridge, I see flashing lights and paramedics and cops! They had an ambulance and fire truck on memorial, ambulances on top of the bridge and cop cars towards downtown. As I jogged by (trying to look like I was athletic and not completly winded!), a paramedic stopped me and asked if I noticed a raft on the river. Yuppers, I said. There were 3 in it. He got on his radio and said "nope. there were just 3". He nodded at me so I kept going. STARS was even circling and I was kinda hoping they'd land but luckily for the rafters, I suppose, they didn't have to.

No one seemed to be moving horribly fast and there didn't seem to be a state of panic or true emergency so I think they just got stuck under the bridge up against those big concrete columns.

It was kinda exciting...and the good looking men in uniform made me smile all the way home! I almost didn't notice how much pain my body was in.

Almost.

Samaritan's Purse

Today was my first day with Samaritan's Purse. This is what my day looked like..

8:00am - arrived at the front door. Christa (who is my cubical-mate) met me with my passcard. I got a tour and met some of the people that I would be working alongside. I shook hands, I smiled, I fidgeted with my passcard.
8:30am - I was left to hang out at my desk and play with my office supplies. They don't have my favourite pen. I don't like the pens they provide. Sigh. I will have to go to Staples and get my own pen. AND...the pen that was there, didn't have a lid. Don't even get me started on this issue I have. It is a whole other post!
9:00am - Department devos. Can you say, awkward? Split into pairs and pray!? Um...do you know me? YIKES! Luckily, Ana and I chatted and then headed back to our desk. Phew. Maybe once I know more about what we were praying for, it will be easier. Maybe. Maybe I'll call in sick every Tuesday.
9:30am - Met with Don, our operations manager. He talked for 1/2 hour and told some interesting stories. He was very candid. I want his job.
10:00 to 11:30am - Sat with Andrea, who is HR. I watched a video on SP and Franklin Graham, learned about the email policy and dress code (what?!?! I can't dress like a hoochie or drink at work? Crazy) and got some free stuff. We talked about her upcoming wedding and the pancake breakfast. Yum.
11:30 to 1:00pm My direct supervisor, Sandra took Christa and Jenny (the receptionist)and I for lunch. We get a discount at Moxie's.
1:30 to 3:30pm - I hung out with Sandra. I signed more forms, and she gave me the run down on summer hours and holidays and sick days. I am working 9 hours a day and get every other Friday off. Woohoo! We took a coffee break and watched part of the World Cup. I flipped through my many binders and books of info. Wow...I don't think I'll ever figure out the phone system!
3:30 to 4:30pm - I got sent to the mail room to help Christa process credit card payments. Yup...I did some actual work today and get this, she only had to show me ONCE how to do it. I think I'm smarter than the average bear! I had to take the automatic withdraw spreadsheets and MANUALLY enter the card numbers, expiration date and amount into a handheld debit machine. THat is a whole lotta numbers! I had to balance the printouts with the total of the sheet. I'm good, everything balanced!
4:45pm - I left and drove to my other job.

That was my day.
